[ARCHIVED] 'Jaws of Life' Used to Free Trapped Motorist

The Royal Oak Fire Department responded to multiple vehicle accidents Saturday, Nov. 4.


Firefighters from Station 2 responded to an injury accident with reports of occupants trapped on southbound Coolidge. The responding units found a heavily damaged vehicle that had struck a tree with the passenger trapped inside.


Firefighters used the 'jaws of life' to remove the door and free the victim. Both the driver and passenger were transported to William Beaumont Hospital with minor injuries only. The accident caused southbound Coolidge to be shut down for about an hour.


Firefighters from Station 1 responded to three separate vehicle accidents on northbound I-75 throughout the day. Two of the accidents were rollovers resulting in major injuries for one driver and minor injuries for the remaining occupants requiring transport to William Beaumont Hospital. The third accident was a chain reaction involving four vehicles with no injuries reported.
