[ARCHIVED] 2022 Library Giving Campaign

2022 Giving Campaign

Dear Neighbor,

A quality library is part of the foundation for any thriving community. As a Royal Oak resident, you can say with pride that you live in one of the best cities in Michigan with one of the top public libraries in the state.

Will you consider supporting the vital resources we offer our community by making a donation to the library today?

In August 2022, our community supported the renewal of our millage, which equals 1 mill of taxes. We are truly grateful for your support! The millage does not begin until July 2023.

2022 has been a productive year for the library. We are almost to pre-pandemic numbers for our services. More people are feeling comfortable returning to the Library after the extended COVID closure. With more than 121,000 visit in 2022 through November, we anticipate nearing or exceeding our pre-pandemic visitations to the Library. In June, we were excited to begin offering in person programming again. Combining our virtual and in-person programming, we have entertained and informed more than 17,000 people in 2022. Most notably, over the past year and following feedback from the community, the library finished renovations and enhancements that make it a brighter, happier, more useful place for all. New carpeting and paint freshened the entirety of the inside of the building. The teen area was renovated, resulting in brighter, more open space and it, along with other areas of the library, boasts new furniture. A small conference room was added for groups from 3-8 people.

When you donate to the Royal Oak Public Library, your support stays right here, going to work for residents and helping maintain the city’s status as one of the best places to live in Michigan. Throughout 2022 contributions from community members have helped the library:

  • Return to in person programming and expand community outreach to older residents, continuing our Homebound Services, and connecting with local schools.
  • Purchase more print materials and expand the Library of Things.
  • Add two additional self-check computers to ease your checkout of materials.
  • Expand our eBook and eAudiobook collections.
  • Increase access to downloadable entertainment such as Kanopy and Hoopla. ∙
  • Upgrade the WiFi in the library.
  • Automate the 11 Mile entrance doors.

When finances are tight or recreational opportunities are sparse for our fellow community members, they rely on the library. Your donation levels the playing field, making the materials that help us learn and grow – that enhance our lives – accessible to those of all backgrounds, ages, needs and abilities, and your donation is more important now than ever. Please consider donating to the Royal Oak Public Library to help expand and improve our offerings for the community! You can make a convenient, secure online donation at ropl.org/donate, or send a check directly to the library at:

Thank you,
Royal Oak Public Library Board of Trustees

P.S. Did you know that $25 will purchase two children’s books and that $100 will purchase five adult books or a program presented by staff for the library? Thanks for your support!
