Construction Project Updates

The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project. If you have questions you can contact the Engineering Division at 248.246.3260.

CAP2007 Gardenia Avenue Improvements

East of Main Street to Campbell Road

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries, Inc.

The city will be resurfacing Gardenia Avenue from just east of Main Street (east of Frentz & Sons Hardware) to Campbell Road. Construction is scheduled to be completed by mid-October 2018. The city has closed Gardenia Avenue to thru-traffic and is prohibiting side street traffic from entering Gardenia between Main Street and Campbell Road as shown on the map below.

The contractor will be grading and forming at the west end of the project and plans to pour a section of concrete roadway just east of Frentz Hardware early in the week of August 6th. The new concrete will remain closed for one week while it gains strength.

The contractor also plans to begin pavement removals at the intersection of Alexander later in the week.

CAP1806 S. Campbell Road Resurfacing

10 Mile Road to 11 Mile Road

Contractor: Iafrate Construction Company

The east half of S. Campbell Road remains closed for the first phase of construction, and traffic is currently shifted to the west side of the road. One lane is open in each direction. The following left turns are not allowed during this phase of construction:

Northbound and southbound Campbell Road at 11 Mile Road
Westbound Lincoln Avenue at S. Campbell Road

The contractor will begin closing driveways on the east side of the road between Sixth Street and Fourth Street starting on Friday August 3rd and residents will receive a door hanger beforehand with this information. Curb and gutter, concrete base and driveways are scheduled to be installed between Lincoln Avenue and E. Fourth Street throughout the week of August 6th.

Over the weekend, unsuitable material was discovered and additional excavation of the roadway is required.

At 7AM Monday August 3rd, the contractor will shut down the northbound lane of S Campbell Rd between Fourth Street and Third Street to proceed with the work.

Flaggers will maintain travel for both directions for the current southbound open lane.

CAP1808 N. Main Street Resurfacing

11 Mile Road to Gardenia Avenue

Contractor: Pro-Line Asphalt Paving Corp.

The contractor has paved the west half of the road. The contractor plans to install the final lane striping paint and will shift traffic as needed throughout the week of August 6th. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of the week with traffic back to the normal configuration.

CAP1720 Royal Oak Roadway Rain Gardens

Contractor: Anglin Civil, LLC

This project is located within the median of E. Fourth Street between S. Blair Avenue and S. Connecticut Avenue. Four rain gardens will be installed along the outer edges of the median and will be planted with native perennial plantings. Rainwater from the roadway will drain into the rain gardens to help keep water out of the city’s sewer system.

The contractor is finishing the underground sewer and drainage structures and will begin excavating the depressed areas for the rain gardens during the week of August 6th.

CAP1815 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries, Inc.

The project is divided into three phases:

All paving is now complete with the exception of areas needing additional repairs. Repairs are tentatively planned for early to mid-August. The restoration crew is scheduled to finish Phase 1 streets and to move on to Phase 3 streets afterward.

The contractor will be applying a rejuvenating agent to the surface of all the streets to help extend the pavement life. There is not a date scheduled for this work yet, but the contractor will put “No Parking” signs in place the day before so that all vehicles are off the new pavement.

CAP1835 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Hard Rock Concrete, Inc.

Informational Presentation: The Engineering Division prepared a presentation to discuss the details of this project. If you haven’t seen it, you can view the presentation here.

The contractor will finish the remaining joint sealing work on the streets. There may be temporary "No Parking" signs in place along the road for the duration of the work.

Topsoil and sod restoration is scheduled to begin in the next couple weeks.

CAP1505 Concrete Street Repairs

Contractor: Galui Construction Company, Inc.

The contractor will continue concrete work in the area east of Woodward Avenue and south of 13 Mile Road, as well as a few miscellaneous areas south of 12 Mile Road and east of Main Street.

The contractor will attempt to allow for on-street parking for the streets immediately off of Woodward for the Dream Cruise, but is not yet sure what streets will be available for parking.

CAP1822 Non-Motorized Improvements

Contractor: Warren Contractors & Development, Inc.

The contractor has closed the outside lanes of N. Main Street from Euclid Avenue (south of 12 Mile Road) to Normandy Road, with one lane open in each direction.

The contractor will work to backfill the work areas and will do small areas of asphalt milling and capping within the bike lane areas throughout the week of August 6th.
