Improving Royal Oak

Completed Streets

Many city projects are substantially complete, except for restoration. The city allows contractors to wait until after Labor Day for grass restoration to allow for more favorable weather conditions.

CAP1715 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries, Inc.

The intersection of Samoset Road on the west side of Crooks Road will be closed while the new concrete cures. Drivers can use 14 Mile Road or Nakota Road to access the residential neighborhood.

CAP1735 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc.

Batavia Avenue

The contractor tentatively plans to install new curb and gutter along both sides of Batavia Avenue, as well as driveway approaches, beginning the week of August 21st. While the concrete cures, the roadway will be milled and the contractor will prepare for the installation of new road base. After the concrete road base has been installed and cured, the contractor will install hot mix asphalt along the entire roadway. The contractor estimates the completion of paving operations by early September.

Dallas Avenue

The contractor will begin transferring individual water services to the new water main during the week of August 21st. The contractor will individually inform residents when their water supply will be shut off, which typically lasts 1 to 2 hours. The contractor also tentatively plans to install storm sewer later in the week, in the area east of Lenox Avenue.

Fairview Avenue

The contractor will pave Fairview Avenue after Kalama and Brinkey Avenue are paved, tentatively scheduled for the week of August 21st.

Kalama Avenue and Brinkey Avenue

The contractor plans to pave these streets starting on Monday August 21st. The pavement will remain closed for one week after concrete is placed to allow for curing. After the road is cured, the contractor will install a pull-off lane along the school property and will also work to install driveways and sidewalk.

Lockwood Avenue

The contractor has finished the pipe installation and is working to test the new water main, which will continue during the week of August 21st. The new water main will likely be connected to the city’s water system later in the week or early the following week. Residents will be notified at least 24 hours in advance of any water shut offs. The contractor also plans to work on storm sewer installation during the week of August 21st.

Consumers Energy will be replacing the gas main and existing gas services on Lockwood over the next few weeks.
