Improving Royal Oak

CAP1535 Sherman Drive Construction

The pavement grinding work was completed this week, and the contractor will begin installing water main on the north side of Sherman Drive from Josephine Avenue to approximately 700 feet east starting next week.  The road will be open to traffic, though some areas will only have one through-lane open.

In the coming weeks, the brush and some trees at the west end of Sherman Drive will be cleared to provide space for the paved roadway and sidewalks.

The contractor has placed “Road Closed” signs at the side of each intersection along Sherman Drive to limit traffic on the roadway.  Residents along Sherman Drive can still use the road to access their properties.

CAP1710 Water Main Improvements

Bellaire Avenue, Ferris Avenue, N. Vermont Avenue, Rochester Road

The contractor will be finishing water main pipe installation on Bellaire Avenue (Campbell Road to N. Edgeworth Avenue) and Ferris Avenue (Donald Avenue to 14 Mile Road) next week.  Afterward, pressure and bacteriological tests will be performed to ensure the water main is ready for public use.  Once testing is complete, the city will connect the new water main to the city’s system, which requires a temporary water shutoff.  Properties that will be without water during the connection will be notified via door hanger the day beforehand.  Shutdowns are typically 4 to 8 hours long.

Bellaire Avenue is open eastbound to Bellaire business traffic only.  Kroger traffic has been directed to use the 12 Mile or Stephenson Road entrances.

N. Vermont Avenue (Donald Avenue to 14 Mile Road) will be the next street under construction, likely in one to two weeks.

CAP1505 Concrete Street Repairs

The city's consultant is continuing to paint the limits of pavement removal on streets within Sections 9, 16, 17 and 21 of the city.  The contractor will begin saw-cutting the pavement in mid-April, and pavement removal is scheduled to begin in May.  Work will start at the south end of the city and move north.
