The Woodward Dream Cruise is rolling in on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 AM to 9 PM — and it’s BIG. We’re talking an anticipated 40,000+ muscle cars, street rods, customs, collectors, and more all in one day.
To help you make the most of the world’s largest one-day automotive event, we’ve put together our annual list of DOs and DON’Ts so you can cruise, watch, and enjoy like a pro.
1. Keep it alcohol-free
This is a family-friendly event, so please leave the alcohol at home. It’s a zero-tolerance zone when it comes to drinking.
2. Drive smart, not showy
We get it—cool cars are part of the fun. But spinning tires and loud engine revving can lead to a misdemeanor and a fine. Let’s keep it safe and respectful out there.
3. Stay off the median
The median is for emergency vehicles only—please don’t sit or stand there. Lawn chairs are welcome along the curb, just don’t block sidewalks or driveways.
4. Bikes? Sure—but follow the rules
Riding a bike on Woodward is legal, but not ideal during the Dream Cruise. If you do, obey all traffic laws—no weaving between cars or running lights. Prefer to stay on the sidewalk? Great—just be kind to pedestrians, or better yet, walk your bike.
5. Be a good neighbor when parking
It’s okay to park on neighborhood streets, but don’t block driveways or sidewalks—and no overnight parking. Let’s keep things smooth for the folks who live nearby.
6. Plan Ahead to Get Home
Please be aware that Woodward Avenue closes to all traffic at 9 PM for about one hour. Royal Oak residents needing to be on the east side of Woodward should plan to cross over before 9 PM.
Heads up: Temps are expected to be near 90 degrees. Stay cool — pack water, wear a hat, bring sunscreen and take shade breaks so you don’t overheat before the engines do.
