Mark your calendar for JUNETEENTH— June 19! We’re kicking things off at the Royal Oak Farmers Market with the 1865-step Freedom Strive March through Downtown Royal Oak (step-off at 4 PM — no registration needed).

After the walk, stick around for a community celebration at the market and in Centennial Commons that goes to 7 PM with live entertainment, local Black-owned vendors, food trucks, and fun for all ages — honoring the day freedom finally reached the last enslaved Americans in 1865.

Pick Up the 2025 Park Passport

While you are there pick up the 2025 Park Passport. Now paperback perfect bound with a glossy cover, the new passport is packed with fresh photos, updated info on all 51 parks, and it's a Special Farmers Market Edition celebrating the market’s 100th birthday!

What's Open? What's Closed on Juneteenth?

City of Royal Oak offices, including the Royal Oak Public Library, will be closed on June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. Normal police and fire services will be provided.

Surface lot and on-street metered parking, will be FREE on June 19. Normal rates apply at public parking decks.

There will be no delay in trash, recycling, or yard waste collection. Please set your carts out by 7AM on your regular collection day.

Bridge Repair

The outside lanes of 11 Mile Road under the train viaduct have been temporarily closed. CN is taking proactive steps to prevent any potential debris issues under the bridge. Work in these lanes is expected to take approximately two weeks before shifting to the inside lanes for continued safety improvements. We appreciate your patience as this important work is completed!

Bring your compost to the WEST porch of the farmers market between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Look for the bright green bins!

WHAT CAN GO IN THE BIN:

🚫 Plastic bags are our biggest problem—please bring your compost in a compostable bag or a reusable bucket.

*The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) checks if a material can break down safely in compost. If something is BPI-certified, it means it has been tested to make sure it composts properly.
