Street sweeping returns Monday, July 17. It'll take approximately three weeks to clean Royal Oak's 214 miles of local streets.

Meet the Artist Laureate

We’re thrilled to announce our 2023-2024 Royal Oak Artist Laureate, Roberta Brown! She is a long-time Royal Oak resident who will be the second Artist Laureate and the first in poetry. Over the next year, Brown will be enhancing the local arts scene by hosting public readings of her work and leading writing workshops around the community as part of the Artist Laureate program’s public project.

Hosted by the Royal Oak Commission for the Arts, the Artist Laureate program is designed to recognize and acknowledge the artistic contributions of experienced individual artists, provide a year of exposure for the selected artist to share their talent with the community, and to encourage and nurture the arts and creative culture in the city.

Congratulations to Roberta Brown! We can’t wait to see how her creativity helps bolster the arts in our beloved community. 

Food Truck Rally at the Market

The food truck rally happens every month at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Enjoy more than eight food trucks, face painting, balloon art, crafts table for the children, and local vendors selling their homemade items.

Preliminary Report on Vinsetta Bridges  is Available Online

In 2022, the Royal Oak City Commission granted approval to the Royal Oak Historical District Study Committee's request to conduct a study on the concrete bridges located on Vinsetta Boulevard. 

The purpose of the study is to determine if these bridges are eligible for historic designation.

Listen Up, Royal Oak!

The new City Commission chamber offers an assistive listening solution that delivers clarity to those struggling to hear in a big room that can at times be crowded. The device (shown in the photo) is easy to use. 

If you are interested in trying one, please call the Human Resources Department at 248-246-3070 in advance of any meeting you are planning to attend. We’ll be happy to have a listening device ready and waiting for you!

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
