Improving Royal Oak
2023 project map

2023 Construction Project Map available now!

Use the map above to see if a project is affecting your street. The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project.

Notices of Construction have been mailed to affected residents and copies are available online here.

CAP2306 Rochester Road

This week the contractor will be installing drainage structures on the east side of the roadway. They will also be grading and prepping driveway approaches and intersections for concrete placement. Once complete, new concrete will be poured.

The contractor has completed water main installation and the new water main will undergo testing this week. Once complete they will tie-in the new main to the existing system.

Turn Restrictions and Closures:

Left turns will not be allowed for northbound and southbound traffic at 12 Mile Road, Girard Avenue and at 13 Mile Road during construction to avoid backups. Northbound Rochester Road will be completely closed between Gardenia Avenue and Dewey Street. Local access to the Oakview Cemetery and Rite Aid will remain open.

More information about the lane conversion can be found at:
www.romi.gov/RochesterRoad

CAP2308 Major Road Improvements

Vinsetta Boulevard:

This week the contractor is removing and replacing some curbing and bump-outs that were found to be deficient. The contractor will also be backfilling behind curbs and cleaning the catch basins in the work zone.

Normandy Road:

The contractor is continuing work on water main installation this week, between Crooks and Linwood.

Normandy Road will be closed to thru traffic throughout construction. Residents with driveways on Normandy will still be able to enter the construction zone via the side streets to access their property. Businesses should direct their patrons, employees and deliveries to use Coolidge to access Normandy Road to minimize conflicts with construction work.

Lincoln Avenue:

The contractor paved the second layer of asphalt on Monday with restoration work to follow.

CAP2305 Concrete Repair Program

This week the contractor is continuing work in the Phase 4 & 5 neighborhoods.

Work in Phases 1-3 is substantially complete.

Work will only be performed on one side of the street at a time, to maintain access for residents throughout construction. Only the worst sections of concrete pavement will be removed and replaced, not the entire roadway. If driveway access will be affected, residents will be notified the day beforehand via doorhanger.

The map below shows the project streets highlighted in LIGHT BLUE.

CAP2315 Asphalt Resurfacing

The project streets shown in purple on the project map have been divided into three phases as shown below.

Phase 1

Lawn restoration will begin this week of Phase 1 streets.

On Hawthorn, paving between Oakmount and Alexander was on hold for sewer investigations. This week the city found no repairs to be needed and paving will be rescheduled.

On Forest, sewer deficiencies were found repairs need to be performed. This work has been scheduled to star the week of the 26th. During the sewer work, Forest will be completely closed from Alexander to house #524/527, and residents within this section will not have access to their driveways.

On N. Wilson, the contractor has completed adjusting drainage structures for the final height of the roadway. Final paving has not been scheduled yet.

Phase 2

On the west side of Etowah between Lincoln and Hudson, the contractor will continue replacing the curbing and driveways this week. The contractor will then pour the new concrete road base. Existing galvanized/lead water services are scheduled to be replaced the week of June 26th. This needs to be completed before the paving work can continue.

On Hoffman, the contractor will start curb replacement work this week.

On S. Blair, concrete work will begin this week on the east side of the roadway, removing curbing and driveway approaches.

Phase 3

Construction on these streets are tentatively scheduled to begin in July.
