Notices of Construction will be mailed in the Spring to affected residents. The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project.

I-75 Freeway & Bridge Work


The following locations are closed this summer for reconstruction as part of the freeway project:

  • 12 Mile Road is closed at I-75
  • Gardenia Ave bridge
  • Lincoln Ave bridge

Questions or concerns regarding the bridge and freeway work should be sent to Oakland Corridor Partners who are overseeing Segment 3 of the construction for MDOT.

CAP2422 CMAQ Traffic Signal Improvements


Royal Oak will be installing new traffic signals and signal equipment throughout the city this year. Work is scheduled to begin in the downtown on S. Main Street at the intersections of Third Street, Fourth Street, and Lincoln Avenue, and then progress elsewhere on Main Street and Crooks Road. Traffic will remain open on all streets, with intermittent single-lane closures.

The contractor plans to begin work this week, performing underground boring for the new signals beginning at the intersections of Main and Third, and Main and Fourth.

2022 Local Road Projects

2022 Major Road Projects


This year, the city will be resurfacing two major roads:

  1. S Main Street - Lincoln Avenue to 11 Mile Road
  2. E Lincoln Avenue - Knowles Street to Campbell Road
Notices of Construction will be mailed in the Spring to affected residents, tenants and property owners before construction begins with details for each project.

Consumers Energy Neighborhood Grid Projects


Consumers Energy is upgrading the gas pipeline infrastructure with some large neighborhood projects this summer, as shown in PINK & YELLOW on the project map above. To learn more visit: ConsumersEnergy.com/pipelineupgrade
