Status of 2020 Construction Projects


The city's contractors are required to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city engineer
for approval and are required to have an on-site supervisor in charge of monitoring
COVID-19 safety procedures.

CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company

The north half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the second phase of construction with traffic shifted to the south side of the roadway. One travel lane is open in each direction. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.

The week of June 22nd, the contractor is working on concrete curbing and sidewalk replacement on the north side of the road.

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road

Contractor: Italia Construction, Inc.

The contractor plans to begin working on this project during the week of June 22nd.  Work will begin at the south end of the project (between 11 Mile Road and 12 Mile Road) and progress to the north.  The contractor will allow for vehicles to drive on each street, though there will be some “no parking” signs installed where needed.

CAP1910/2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc

The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street. Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

E. Harrison Avenue – no work planned this week.
Fifth Street – Individual water services will be transferred to the new water main throughout the week.  Residents will have the water turned off for about 20-30 minutes when their service is connected, and the contractor will knock on the door to inform residents.

Seventh Street – There is a water main connection scheduled for Monday June 22 which will require a temporary water shutdown.  Affected residents will be notified with a door hanger.  Later in the week the contractor will begin transferring individual water services to the new water main. Residents will have the water turned off for about 20-30 minutes when their service is connected, and the contractor will knock on the door to inform residents.

S. Rembrandt Avenue & Alley – There is a water main connection scheduled for Monday June 22 which will require a temporary water shutdown, and affected residents were notified with a door hanger.  Later in the week the contractor will begin transferring individual water services to the new water main. Residents will have the water turned off for about 20-30 minutes when their service is connected, and the contractor will knock on the door to inform residents.

S. Altadena Avenue – the contractor flushed the new water main over the weekend and will be performing pressure testing and bacteria testing of the new water main pipe this week.

S. Vermont Avenue – the contractor plans to finish installing the water main pipe between E. Fifth Street and E. Sixth Street this week.

Longfellow Avenue and Helene Avenue – the contractor plans to begin mobilizing to the street on June 22, and will begin installation of water main later in the week.

CAP2050 CDBG Judson Avenue Paving

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road
Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc

The contractor plans to install handicap ramps and joint seal the new pavement during the week of June 22nd.   

CAP2015 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries

Phase 1 Streets - The contractor milled the pavement and is tentatively scheduled to begin paving Phase 1 streets on Wednesday June 24.  After the first level of asphalt is placed, the contractor will adjust the manhole structure covers to the final road elevation, and then final paving is scheduled for the week of June 29th. 

The northeast corner of Sunset and Woodsboro curbing will be replaced once Consumers Energy finishes repair work.

Phase 2 Streets – The contractor will be working on Woodslee to install underground piping.  Also the intersection of Woodslee and 13 Mile is scheduled to be replaced with concrete and tentatively open by July 4th.  Afterward, the contractor will move to Linwood, Woodland and Ferncliff to begin curbing replacement.

CAP2015 Phases

CAP2009 Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing

Lincoln Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Lafayette Avenue
Contractor: Asphalt Specialists, Inc

Lincoln Avenue will be closed to traffic during construction and only one-way traffic will be allowed on Lincoln Avenue, eastbound, between Woodward Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.

During the week of June 22nd, the contractor will be grading for installation of curbing on the south side of the road.  Concrete curbs are tentatively planned to be poured during the week of June 29th.  

CAP2035 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc

Delaware Avenue – The contractor plans to pave the north half of the intersection at E. Parent Avenue and to begin backfilling behind the curb later in the week. 

Knowles Street - The contractor plans to pour concrete this week, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday. Once complete, the street will remain closed for one week while the concrete cures. 

Lenox Avenue - The contractor plans to pour concrete this week, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.  Once complete, the street will remain closed for one week while the concrete cures. 
 
Massoit Road – The contractor plans to backfill behind the curb and prepare the driveway approaches for paving later in the week.
 
Chester Road – The contractor will be placing stone road base and grading the roadway throughout the week.

Contractor: Dans Excavating

During the week of June 22nd the contractor will continue installing foundations and hand holes, and also boring underground conduit for new mast arm traffic signals on 11 Mile Road at the intersections of Washington Avenue, Center Street and Main Street.
