Status of 2020 Construction Projects


The governor has authorized construction operations to begin again starting on Thursday, May 7th. The city's contractors are required to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city engineer for approval and are required to have an on-site supervisor in charge of monitoring COVID-19 safety procedures.

CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company


The south half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the first phase of construction with traffic shifted to the north side of the roadway. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.

The week of June 1st, the contractor plans to switch operations to the north side of the roadway, with one lane of traffic open for each direction on the south side. They will begin saw-cutting and milling the existing road pavement, and work on pavement base repairs.

CAP1910/2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street. Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

The week of June 1st, pavement restoration will continue on the south side of E. Harrison Avenue

Water main on Fifth Street has been installed and is now undergoing testing. Once complete they will begin connections to the existing water supply, likely the end of this week or early next week. Any residents affected by a water shut-off will be notified via door hanger the day beforehand with the time and duration of the scheduled shut off.

Water main installation will continue on Seventh Street and S. Rembrandt Avenue the week of June 1st.

CAP2050 CDBG Judson Avenue Paving

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road

The city's contractor poured areas of new pavement on Saturday. Those areas will remain closed during the week while the concrete cures. Weather permitting, the contractor plans to return on Friday to prep other areas for new pavement, and will pour on Saturday again.

The week of June 1st, on Maple Avenue the contractor will be removing and replacing curbing and driveway approaches on the west side of the roadway.

On Cherry Avenue, the contractor also plans to work on some curb removal and replacement.

On Sunset Boulevard, the contractor will be installing some new manholes and catch basins, and work on removing and replacing curbing and driveway approaches on the west side. The contractor also plans to begin intersection work along Woodward Avenue at Greenleaf Drive/Sunset Boulevard.

If access to a driveway will be unavailable due to construction operations, residents will receive a door hanger notice the day beforehand so they can remove their vehicles from the driveway.

CAP2009 Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing

Lincoln Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Lafayette Avenue
Contractor: Asphalt Specialists, Inc


The city's contractor is beginning work this week on Lincoln Avenue. The contractor will be closing the road during construction and only one-way traffic will be allowed on Lincoln Avenue, eastbound, between Woodward Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.

The contractor plans to begin on the north side of the roadway, removing and replacing curbing.

CAP2035 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor is continuing work on Knowles Street the week of June 1st. The contractor will continue doing underground utility work and installing edge drain, then grading and preparing the roadway for new pavement.

At the Chester Road and Ravena Avenue intersection, the contractor will be doing a water main connection scheduled for Thursday, June 4th, weather permitting. Any properties who will be affected by the water shut-off will receive a notice via door hanger the day beforehand with the scheduled time and duration.
