Status of 2020 Construction Projects


The governor has authorized construction operations to begin again starting on Thursday, May 7th. The city's contractors are required to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city engineer for approval and are required to have an on-site supervisor in charge of monitoring COVID-19 safety procedures.

CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company


The south half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the first phase of construction with traffic shifted to the north side of the roadway. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.

The contractor plans to begin paving the first layer of asphalt the week of May 18th. They will also be adjusting drainage structures as needed for the new height of the roadway.

CAP1910/2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street. Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

The contractor plans to place the new road pavement on the north half of Harrison Avenue the week of May 18th. The contractor will also begin water main installation on Fifth Street. Depending on weather and progress, the contractor may also mobilize to Seventh Street towards the end of the week.

The contractor will also continue marked tree removals on Longfellow Avenue and Rembrandt Avenue.

CAP2050 CDBG Judson Avenue Paving

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor is working on grading and preparing the road base for new pavement the week of May 18th.  Weather permitting, new road pavement will be poured and the street will be closed to traffic while the pavement cures.

CAP2015 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries


The city's contractor will work on marked tree removals on Monday, May 18th.
The city's contractor also plans to start underground utility work on Sunset Boulevard and Woodslee Drive the week of May 18th. Workers will be saw-cutting sections of curbing/pavement on the project streets for future replacement as well.

If access to a driveway will be unavailable due to construction operations, residents will receive a door hanger notice the day beforehand so they can remove their vehicles from the driveway.

CAP2009 Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing

Lincoln Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Lafayette Avenue
Contractor: Asphalt Specialists, Inc


The city's contractor plans to begin work on Lincoln Avenue after Memorial Day, starting on May 26th. They will be mobilizing signage and materials to the work area.

CAP2035 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor plans to begin mobilizing to Knowles Street on Monday May 18th and begin work on Wednesday (weather permitting).

CAP2002 Sidewalk Improvement Program - Postponed


At the April 13, 2020 meeting, the city commission discussed the sidewalk program and directed the engineering division to postpone the program until 2021. Engineering staff will be re-inspecting the condition of sidewalks in the fall and residents who were in the 2020 target area will receive more information in Spring 2021.
