Status of 2020 Construction Projects


The governor has authorized construction operations to begin again starting on Thursday, May 7th. The city's contractors are required to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city engineer for approval and are required to have an on-site supervisor in charge of monitoring COVID-19 safety procedures.

CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company


The south half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the first phase of construction with traffic shifted to the north side of the roadway. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.

The contractor plans to work on concrete sidewalks and driveway approaches the week of May 11th. They will also be adjusting drainage structures and conditioning the road pavement for new hot mix asphalt (HMA).

CAP2050 CDBG Judson Avenue Paving

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor is working on grading and other earth work for the new aggregate road base the week of May 11th. There will be limited access to Judson Avenue.

CAP1910/2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street.Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

The contractor plans to continue pavement restoration work on Harrison Avenue the week of May 11th. The contractor will also begin some water main installation at the intersection of Chester Road and Ravena Avenue. Depending on weather and progress, the contractor may also mobilize to Fifth Street mid-week to begin pavement removal and water main installation.

The contractor will also begin marked tree removals starting Tuesday, May 12th.

CAP2015 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries


The city's contractor plans to start saw-cutting the week of May 11th and begin curb replacement the week of May 18th. The contractor plans to work on the streets in the phasing below.

CAP2002 Sidewalk Improvement Program - Postponed


At the April 13, 2020 meeting, the city commission discussed the sidewalk program and directed the engineering division to postpone the program until 2021. Engineering staff will be re-inspecting the condition of sidewalks in the fall and residents who were in the 2020 target area will receive more information in Spring 2021.
