[ARCHIVED] Why Is It Taking So Long?

Looking at Watch

Many have asked, "Why will the city’s network system and telephones be down so long?" Nine calendar days is a lot!

Here’s a list of what the city’s information technology (IT) team will need to make happen between Aug. 11 and Aug. 19:

  • On Aug. 11, the first day of the move, the IT team will be installing new servers in the control room of the new City Hall.
  • An integral part of the IT operations also includes our cable television channel. The entire WROK TV suite – with all it’s computer equipment – will need to be moved and reinstalled.
  • Each desktop computer and phone will need to be wired into each individual desk/workstation/office – this alone is a very time-consuming process. There are approximately 100 workstations for the number of employees who will be working at the new building.
  • The new facility is equipped with several conference rooms, not to mention the commission chamber, with state-of-art telecommunications equipment.
  • The city has a large print room with several printers and large printing equipment that will need to be installed.
  • Finally, after everything is done, the equipment needs to be tested and making sure it works properly.
